In a recent Realtor.com article, Pottsville was named the most affordable metro to live in compared to other cities.
POTTSVILLE, PA – Across the country, real estate costs are rising. Homes sell for tens of thousands of dollars above their listing price.
For sale, signs are scattered around Pottsville – the city has just been named the most affordable metropolitan area in the country in a report from Realtor.com.
According to Realtor.com, the median price of a home in Pottsville is just under $ 110,000.
Tara Grochowski, chair of the Schuylkill Board of Realtors, says there has been an influx of home buyers from neighboring large towns looking to buy in the Pottsville area.
“We have seen a lot of buyers out of the area, and many have had to deal with most companies realizing that a lot of their workers can work from home,” Grochowski said.
Just because homes in the Pottsville area have been rated most affordable doesn’t mean they’re easy to find.
“Like nationally, it’s very difficult right now. So I hope that as we approach next year more stocks will be available,” Grochowski said.
Low inventory means homes are selling in record time and for more.
Grochowski says even houses in Pottsville cost about 20% more than normal. This is a dream scenario for sellers until they start looking for a home on their own.
“At the same time, it’s hard to find them another place to go,” Grochowski said.
Grochowski says it’s a whirlwind for realtors like her, who strive to get their clients the best deals in this rapidly changing environment. She says Pottsville is a city with character and history, hoping to reinvent itself.
“If you look around, new restaurants are opening, restaurants are expanding, we have new storefronts, two microbreweries, a cellar and an affordable price that makes it very appealing to those who pursue the American dream”, Grochowski said.
As homes continue to soar from the market, Grochowski hopes buyers will be sold in the community as well.
