NEW YORK–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Certified CPAs and CPA firms in Canada will soon be able to apply .cpa web domains to strengthen their brand positioning in the digital world and promote greater trust and security with customers in online communications. The restricted web domain, which is administered by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and its business and technology arm, CPA.com, will officially launch in Canada at 11 a.m. EST on November 2. To be eligible, Canadian CPAs and CPAs companies must be licensed.
The .cpa domain service was first launched by AICPA in the United States in September of last year and has garnered great interest from businesses of all sizes. To date, thousands of .cpa domains have been registered by U.S. CPAs and firms, ranging from independent practitioners to the majority of the top 500 U.S. accounting firms.
“Restricted domains are more secure, promote greater trust and credibility with customers and the general public, and allow for better branding opportunities,” said Erik Asgeirsson, president and CEO of CPA.com. “We have seen great interest and creativity in the types of fields CPAs are looking for since the service began last year. We look forward to bringing this important capability to the CPA profession in Canada at the end of 2021 and will be launching it in other countries in 2022.
Many companies have been strategic in the names they researched, getting shorter, more relevant .cpa domains that best suit their brand, rather than just settling for the remaining .com addresses available.
“When our suppliers or third party customers receive our emails, they know it is a legitimate email with .cpa,” said Tracee Buethner, CPA, partner of Widmer Roel, a company based in Fargo. , in North Dakota, which secured wr.cpa. “While business leaders were most excited about the brand development opportunities, the trust and security that comes with adopting a .CPA domain has been equally important in practice. ”
The AICPA was granted ownership and oversight of .cpa in 2019 by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the non-profit organization that oversees the Internet’s naming system. CPA.com is responsible for managing the service globally.
