We continue to work with federal, state, local, tribal and community partners to support Ida’s continued response. As cleanup efforts begin in several states, this page offers general and state-specific information and resources related to requesting assistance, storm safety, and news and media.

Those affected by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania can now seek help.

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
    • Call 1-800-621-3362 Where TTY 1-800-462-7585. Hours: 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. ET, 7 days a week.
      • If you use a relay service (a videophone, InnoCaption, CapTel, etc.), please indicate your number assigned to this service. FEMA must be able to contact you. Be aware that FEMA phone calls are from an unidentified number.

Due to the current disaster activity, we are experiencing significant call volumes. The fastest way to apply is online at Disaster Assistance.gov.

Our agents will not be able to provide additional information regarding the inspections. A FEMA inspector will contact you prior to your inspection. Please continue to monitor the status of your case online.

Housing assistance

FEMA Transitional Shelter Assistance was activated for Louisiana survivors, enabling short-term emergency accommodation options at participating hotels.

To receive housing assistance, start with ask for help. You must have a FEMA registration ID and FEMA approval to participate. If FEMA has contacted you regarding accommodation assistance, you can search for participating hotels.

Safety tips after the storm

Safety is the number one priority after any storm. Be careful in areas with damage, flooding, and power outages.

  • Use generators safely – keep them outside and away from your home (video below).
  • Avoid wading or driving in flood waters inside, outside and around your home.
  • Clean up safely – wear protective clothing and equipment, use a mask, and get help moving heavy debris.

Operation Blue Roof

In Louisiana, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has activated its Operation Blue Roof program for parishes approved for individual assistance. Residents can register for the program and complete an entrance fee form at BlueRoof.fr.

Rumors and scams

Unfortunately, after a disaster there are often a lot of rumors and scams. Protect yourself by always checking sources of information and learning how to spot scams.

Don’t trust anyone who offers financial help and then asks for money or personal information.

  • DHS, FEMA, HHS, and CDC staff never charge for disaster assistance.
  • Federal and local rescuers do not solicit or accept money.
  • Beware of visits, calls, or emails from people claiming to be FEMA members asking for your social security number, bank account, or other sensitive information. Giving this kind of information can lead to identity theft.
