Color Graphics launches Oris X-Gamut

Color Graphics Services will launch its CGS-Oris X-Gamut – a precision software system for taking full advantage of the extended color gamut in sets, conventional and digital presses and printers – at PacPrint, June 28 through July 1 at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

According to the company, with the increasing demand for reproduction of wide color gamuts in all disciplines (offset, digital, flexo, gravure and photography), the need for precise control of seven- and eight-color ink sets becomes paramount. .

Color Graphic said this is especially true for labels and packaging, where colors such as orange, green and purple are added to the standard CMYK process color scheme, commonly referred to as CMYK+X or print to extended range.

As a result, Color Graphic is now a local Australian and New Zealand reseller for CGS-Oris (also known as CSG Publishing Technologies).

X-Gamut is fully automated color management software for extended gamut color printing on digital and conventional presses. Spot colors and special colors can be accurately reproduced using a standard seven or eight fixed color (CMYK+X) ink set.

The company said a big advantage of single-pass CMYK+X printing is that there is no need for special color ink mixtures, which significantly streamlines the production process since no press washing, changeover times or off-press mixing is required.

This results in reduced ink inventory and waste from rarely used boxes of specially blended inks, allowing X-Gamut to reduce costs for printers and customers.

“At PacPrint and beyond, we will focus on Oris X Gamut, which brings many benefits to commercial, packaging and label printers,” said David Crowther, Director of Color Graphic Services.

“With Oris X Gamut, spot/special colors can be accurately reproduced using a standard color ink set (CMYK+X), in seven or eight channels. The results are spectacular and we will be demonstrating them at our PacPring booth F44, inviting digital and conventional printers to see and try for themselves.

Why X Gamut?

Color Graphic said the Oris X Gamut is not only perfectly suited to accurately reproduce spot and brand colors, but also features a perfect combination of software features and smart workflow tools, allowing printers to exploit the full range of the press and ink set, so images are printed brilliantly in every detail, without the need for special inks.

This has also made X Gamut an important tool in the photographic/art printing industry, where large format printers always have extra colors to deal with and workflows tend to be RGB.

The main advantages of Oris X Gamut are:

  • Accurate spot color reproduction with an extended standard ink set (CMYK+X);
  • Photographic printing with vivid, highly saturated colors;
  • Separation of PDF files and RGB data with special colors into multi-channel data;
  • Generation of multi-channel profiles and custom test patterns;
  • Interface with standard spot color libraries (eg Pantone);
  • Create and modify custom color libraries;
  • Quick and easy creation, processing and exchange of CxF or spectral measurement data;
  • Simple handling and perfect results thanks to the wizard-based user interface;
  • Fully automated processes, thanks to intelligent workflow tools; and
  • Immediate process and quality control with certified intelligent automation.
